NBA basketball star Steph Curry has plenty of cash, with projections he’ll be a billionaire before he retires from the league, thanks to a big salary and plenty of endorsements. But one of those brand endorsements seems to have led to the professional athlete driving a rather modest car.
Meanwhile, Shaq buys cars he can’t even fit inside.
You might know Curry is a brand ambassador for Infiniti, Nissan’s luxury division. As part of the deal he signed back in 2017 he was given a 2018 Infiniti Q50 which the man reportedly still uses as a daily driver, says the US Sun.
It’s not that Curry doesn’t own anything nicer. He actually has a whole fleet of expensive, exotic rides like a Range Rover Sport LWB, Cadillac Escalade ESV, Porsche Panamera Turbo S, and a Mercedes-AMG G55. He doesn’t seem to drive those nearly as much.
The reason why might have to do with an incident from 2018. Curry was driving his Porsche 911 GT3 RS on a highway in California when he got into a little front end collision. While he wasn’t hurt in the accident, the professional basketball player reportedly was shaken by it.
While he no doubt has the cash to fix his Porsche, the man probably didn’t like shelling out what that took. Maybe he doesn’t want to damage his other more expensive rides in a similar incident? Or maybe he feels safer in the Infiniti? That doesn’t seem likely when he has an Escalade and Range Rover, but who knows?
It’s also possible the endorsement deal with Infiniti stipulates he has to drive the Q50 the majority of the time. If that were true, we’d imagine Infiniti would give him a new car at least every couple of years, but we could be wrong.
All we know is even if you look through Curry’s social media feeds, he’s not flaunting his wealth and flashing all his expensive cars. There’s something down-to-earth about the guy and we like that.
