Former star LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy is a wanted man after authorities say he caused a fatal car accident, then ran off. While one man died, two others were badly injured. But rather than stay and help, then face the consequences, Lacy reportedly took off. There was a warrant out for his arrest, but he surrendered to police and was arrested on January 12.
Former NFL player has his muscle car stolen.
Lacy posted bail with a $151,000 bond for criminal charges of hit-and-run driving with serious injury or death, reckless operation with accident, and negligent homicide. The fatal crash happened back on December 17 in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana. A 78-year-old man who was a former Marine died and two other people were hospitalized.
Just before the crash, Lacy was reportedly behind the wheel of a 2023 Dodge Charger as he allegedly was seen speeding and swerving around slower cars into the oncoming lane of traffic in a no passing zone on LA Highway 20.
While he was doing this, a pickup truck in the oncoming lane of traffic hit the brakes and swerved right to avoid a collision. Behind it was a Kia Cadenza, which swerved left to avoid a head-on crash, only it crossed into oncoming traffic, colliding head-on into a Kia Sorento
According to Louisiana State Police, not only did Lacy not stop to render aid to the victims of the crash, he allegedly drove around the scene, then took off, not even bothering to call authorities and alert them to the accident.
Interestingly enough, Lacy declared for the NFL Draft a couple of days after the hit-and-run accident. WAFB said Lacy’s agent provided the following statement about the incident:
“We are aware of the allegations that have been made regarding Kyren Lacy, and we want to take this opportunity to address them. First and foremost, Kyren is fully cooperating with authorities. We strongly believe that the facts will ultimately demonstrate the truth but we respect the need for a full and thorough investigation.
We recognize the concern and questions that may arise from these recent allegations. To anyone impacted, directly or indirectly, we want to assure that this matter is being taken very seriously, and we are committed to resolving it responsibly. Out of respect for the investigation and everyone involved, we will not be making further comments at this time.”
Time will tell if the criminal charges stick or if Lacy’s actions have been mischaracterized. His future in the NFL likely hangs in the balance.
