Former professional basketball player Shaq has said he treats his cars like they’re girlfriends, so it’s curious he dumped both of his custom Cybertrucks at the same time. The big man seemed really into the Teslas, so it’s shocking to hear he just dropped them so quickly.
Shaq is selling off several of his other custom rides.
Yet during a recent episode of The Big Podcast, Shaq admitted the reason, and we have to say we’re not all that surprised. It’s something which holds us back from even considering an EV, something which EV advocates try to say isn’t a big deal.
“I was into Cybertrucks, but they don’t give enough charge mileage,” he revealed. “Then I just go one of those IQs system Escalades. Today I was in Vegas. I ain’t have to charge up for four days. My Cybertruck here, if I go downtown to work tonight and come back, I’m gonna be struggling to get back.”
That’s right, Shaq is turning away from his Teslas in favor of Cadillacs. That will get people debating which American EV is better, with the Tesal fanboys likely saying Shaq doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
But as far as Shaq is concerned, the lack of driving range on his Tesla Cybertrucks is a deal breaker. The man drives all over the place and he knows having to wait at a Supercharger for one to open up, then 20 minutes to top off the battery isn’t exactly convenient.
Shaq started off buying a pair of Cadillac Escalade IQs, having them customized by Effortless Motors, then forgetting about it and arguing that he didn’t buy the first of the luxury SUVs when it was delivered to his house.
But the man has quickly fallen in love, buying a third Escalade IQ. This is probably one of the best ads GM could ask for.
