Sam Gardiner, who was on the reality TV show Race Across the World, has died tragically in a car accident at just 24 years old. Fans are now mourning the loss along with the Gardiner family.
Someone actually bought an incredibly mangled Porsche 911.
According to Greater Manchester Police, Gardiner was driving a white Volkswagen Golf R on the A34 when he crashed. The single car collision happened on May 26 but Gardiner was in the hospital until May 29, finally succumbing to injuries sustained in the crash.
News of the accident didn’t hit until June 1.
Gardiner was the only occupant in the Golf R when it departed the road, flipped, and landed on its side. Why the car drifted off the street isn’t clear.
Jo and Andrew Gardiner, Sam’s parents, shared a heartfelt message about losing their son:
“We are devastated by the loss of our beloved son Sam in a terrible accident. Sam left us far too soon, and whilst words will never fully capture the light, joy and energy he brought into our lives, we hold on to the memories that made him so special. Sam was adored by his family. As a son, brother and nephew, he was loyal, funny and fiercely protective.
“He did Race Across The World in 2019, which opened his eyes to the wonder of adventure and travel. He was willing to go wherever the trail might lead and he touched everyone he met on the road. He found great happiness working as a landscape gardener on the west coast of Scotland.
“Sam brought warmth, laughter and a smattering of chaos wherever he went. He leaves behind a huge hole in our hearts. We will miss him endlessly, but we’ll also remember him with smiles, tall tales, and a depth of love that will never fade”.
Emon Choudhurym, who was on Race Across the World for the same season, posted a tribute to Gardiner on his Instagram account. Calling Sam his “dear friend,” Choudhurym said the man “was pure sunshine in human form.”
A landscape gardener on Scotland’s west coast, Sam was hoisted into the public eye in 2019 when he starred in the reality TV show where pairs of contestants race across the globe without using an airplane or smartphone.
