If you’ve ever fantasized about rescuing barn find cars, you probably haven’t dreamed of something like this C1 Corvette. Left in pieces, the late owner actually fenced the classic sports car in, we’re assuming to keep it from getting stolen while he worked on its restoration.
This barn find Corvette has a criminal history.
But life has its twists and turns. The man suffered some health episodes and was no longer able to work on the car, which sat without its engine, interior, and a lot of other parts. It was at least covered by some tarps and since it was fenced in all around, nobody messed with it.
However, when the late owner’s daughter tried selling it to Dennis Collins, who travels all over buying barn find condition vehicles like this, getting it out was a challenge even for someone so seasoned.
But Collins finds a way to drag the 1962 Chevy Corvette out of its grave and it involves pulling the fence down. The family was going to take it out anyway as they’re cleaning up from hurricane damage, but the rickety thing proves to be far more resilient than it looks.
Thanks to the power of tools, and with the help of a tow truck, they get the ‘Vette out
As for the Corvette’s removed parts, those were all stashed in a dilapidated shed along with all kinds of other stuff. While not as difficult to remove as the car, it required some digging around to ensure the team got everything. It also required spelunking through a second storage shed which was just as scary.
This just goes to show if you want to rescue neglected cars, you’ll have to get your hands dirty. That might require digging through a horrific hoarder garage, dealing with wild animals nesting, or any number of other surprises.
