Finding a Ford Mustang Boss 302 in great condition would be enough to put a smile on anyone’s face, even the Mopar and Chevy guys, but a Tasca model is way beyond that. Of course, most people would think this pony is just a Boss 302, which is probably what previous owners believed. But car hunter Dennis Collins was able to figure out it is in fact an incredibly rare ride
Barn find 1969 Mustang Boss 429 probably belongs in a museum.
The predecessors to the Cobra Jet Mustangs, the Tascas were the first factory-sponsored drag racers put together by Bob Tasca. Collins did his homework and even he was surprised to learn only 29 Boss 302 were modified by Tasca for drag racing.
That scarcity most definitely affects the value of this classic Ford. Plus, the historical significance of the car is high, even if it is painted the most common color for the production run.
Unfortunately, the guy who bought this Tasca Boss 302 realized after he tried undoing modifications installed by a previous owner that he was going down quite the rabbit hole. To him it obviously wasn’t worth seeing the labor of love through the end, and that’s where Dennis Collins comes into the picture.
The owner was finally done messing with the pony car after it started experiencing electrical problems and he couldn’t quite figure out how to fix it. For Dennis that’s just business as usual. He says he usually just replaces the entire electrical system on these rides.
Collins has been doing work like this for a long time, so he makes hunting down rare classic rides look easy. While a lot of people want to be “barn find” hunters or whatever you want to call them, few have the skill set to truly be successful in this line of work. It’s always fascinating to watch someone who is as they’re doing their thing.
