Back in the day, rappers were making hit songs about stealing from other people, but rising rap star 42 Dugg says someone instead stole his beloved Jeep Trackhawk. He took to his Instagram account to announce the theft, cryptically warning that he would get the Jeep back “by any means necessary.”
Someone stole some Army Reserve Humvees, equipment, and tried to take uniforms, too.
Dion Marquise Hayes, 42 Dugg’s legal name, lives in Detroit, Michigan which is a hotbed of car theft. High-powered Mopars are especially popular with thieves in Motor City, so we’re honestly not surprised someone swiped his ride.
On his Instagram stories for January 15, he posted a photo of his Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk with the following message: “Return to owner we ain’t knocking no body hustle but we getting this car back by any means necessary. I’m gone find it I promise you.”
It sounds like 42 Dugg and his crew are ready to take matters into their own hands instead of going to the police, although we can’t confirm that. We do know many residents in Detroit feel the police are part of the car theft problem and there have been cases of police officers getting caught engaging in that sort of illegal activity. However, there is no evidence that behavior is widespread.
Theres’s also he possibility this is all just a publicity stunt for the rapper so he can act tough and get sympathy from fans. That would be weird but it’s still possible.
42 Dugg has been on the wrong side of the law himself. In October 2023 he was released from prison after serving a six-month sentence for violating the terms of his bond for a 2019 case involving an illegal weapons possession charge. He could have spent five years in prison for the violation, so the rapper got off light.
