The Porsche 918 Spyder was a technological wonder when it debuted back in the day. While the hybrid hypercar is still relevant today, a testament to the engineering behind it, it’s also still drop dead gorgeous. With just 918 made, you might not have seen one get fully detailed before – but you will now.
Shaq is auctioning off his custom Dodge Hellcat.
In the capable hands of AMMO NYC, this $2.5 million German hypercar not only gets cleaned outside and in, the old PPF is removed and the paint is corrected, making this thing even more gorgeous than before.
Although the Porsche is rather dirty, which amazes us, after it was sitting in storage for years. One would think a person who owns such a valuable ride would baby it, having it professionally detailed regularly, but that isn’t always what happens.
It cleans up nicely enough, but Larry shows how the tires have a gunky film on them. That’s from tire shine buildup, something we’ve honestly never really thought about. We do clean our tires periodically, but apparently the detailers hired by this Porsche owner didn’t and the tire shine just built up to a crazy level.
Another problem he has to address is the old PPF. We know paint protection film is super controversial in some enthusiasts circles. People seem to either think it’s a great way to guard against damage or it’s a wonderful way to damage your paint.
Either way, PPF does age out and has to be removed, either to be replaced or the paint left bare. Getting the stuff off a vehicle without damaging it can be tricky, even for Larry, but a PPF installer commented on another of his videos, teaching him a neat trick for getting it off cleanly and quickly. You’ll need to watch the video to learn it.
With that removed, he does the paint correction, then installs new PPF, preserving the breathtaking results. Check it out for yourself.
