Celebrities helping out “regular” folk after they suffer a devastating loss is becoming a thing lately, first with Jennifer Lopez and now Paris Hilton. As is the case with these sorts of things, no good deed goes without a publicist, social media post, or both.

In the case of Hilton, her media company 11:11 Media handled spreading around the details of how she gifted a new car to an adoring who lost hers in a fire. Of course, the hotel heiress made sure to get Carvana onboard with the charitable donation, taking pictures with the delivery truck and its branded imagery.
The fan, Bibiana Gonzalez of the Dallas, Texas area, was driving on the highway in early May when her vehicle caught fire. Fortunately, the woman was able to pull over and get out in time, but the ride was apparently a total loss, leaving her without a set of wheels.
She posted a video on TikTok about the ordeal and someone in Paris’ orbit saw it, probably because Gonzalez mentioned the only thing that survived the blaze was a Hilton-themed mug in the cupholder.
Paris herself, or maybe her social media manager, commented on the video, saying he was “going to do everything… to help out.” That wasn’t just some idle promise.
Just one week after that, Hilton showed up with a Carvana truck hauling a new car. There was also a cameraman on hand to capture the moment so it could be shared on TikTok, of course. That paid off as Gonzalez called Paris her “fairy Godmother.”
We’re not knocking Paris Hilton or any other celebrity for helping people, but we also know what’s going on here. In a time when a lot of people are tired of famous people lecturing everyone else about all kinds of things nobody asked them about, a few savvy ones are trying to smooth things over with these highly publicized charitable acts.
Does this stuff work? Maybe on some, but others know it could all just be a PR move with no real emotions like empathy behind it.
