Riding a motorcycle in traffic can be treacherous enough without having to worry about a giant sinkhole opening up right underneath you. But one man in Seoul, South Korea experienced just that as he was riding along a public road with the whole thing caught on dashcam by a driver following behind.
These 12 celebrities died in car crashes.
As you can see in the footage, which we’ve included in case you want to have nightmares tonight, there’s no warning before the sinkhole just opens up in the road. A car that was just ahead of the motorcycle almost fell in, the back wheels hitting the lip of the newly-formed hole, causing the car to launch into the air.

Sadly, the motorcyclist didn’t survive the ordeal. As you can see in the footage, after the initial sinkhole opens, the camera car pulls over at a gas station by the sinkhole, which then opens up further.
According to a New York Post article about the ordeal, officials estimate it was about 65 feet wide and 65 feet deep. You can also see shortly after the hole opened up further, water begins gushing into it as a water main burst. It’s unsure if the fall or the water was what killed the motorcyclist.
The sinkhole opened up on the afternoon of March 24, but the motorcyclist’s body wasn’t found until late on the morning of March 25. He was reportedly wearing a helmet and appropriate boots for riding, but those didn’t save his life.
We don’t even know what you could do differently in this situation. There didn’t appear to be any cracks or surface sagging on the road right before the hole suddenly opened up. The rider was in the middle of the sinkhole, so we don’t think he could’ve jumped or otherwise gotten clear in time.
