Montreal Snowplow Damages Multiple Cars

Estimated read time 2 min read

A family in Montreal is furious after a city snowplow plowed into the side of their parked minivan. You can see the damage from a video they took in the improper vertical or portrait orientation (when will people learn?) and shared with Global News.

Learn about the Burt Reynolds Gila Bend mystery.

If we came out in the morning and found that kind of damage to our car, even if it were just a dumb minivan, we’d be furious. Our first thought would be that some drunk driver sideswiped it while meandering home from the club late at night. But to find out it was a government vehicle instead, that would boil our blood.

Neighbors’ cars were also damaged, although thankfully they weren’t anything super cool, just Teslas and other ho-hum rides. Regardless, they’re people’s personal property and they were quite damaged with body panels crumpled and scratched, windows blown out, and side mirrors ripped off.

Thanks to the onboard cameras on the Tesla and a neighbor’s surveillance cameras, the people in the Montreal neighborhood have definitive proof it was a city snowplow that hit the cars and just kept on going.

Some of the people uploaded the videos to social media after the city just blew them off. Those videos have gone viral, racking up millions of views. In the meantime, Global News says insurance will cover the damage, although the one minivan might be a total loss claim.

It gets even better: after Global News contacted the city, the reporter was told the snowplow was owned and operated by a private contractor. So that apparently lets the city off the hook or something? Unbelievable.

The decent thing for the city to do, besides apologize and explain how it will ensure something like this never happens again, would be to cover the citizens’ insurance deductibles. After all, it was a contractor the city hired who damaged their vehicles and for no good reason other than he can’t drive a snowplow properly. This is almost as bad as curbing the wheels on your hobby car because you just can’t judge distances worth anything.
