One of the most popular stretches of road for motorcyclists and others to ride is the Tail of the Dragon in eastern Tennessee. With 318 curves over just an 11-mile stretch of two-lane highway, it’s easy to see why so many want to test their mettle there. But sometimes you see some oddities, like this mobility scooter which was recorded ripping through the turns, even passing a motorcycle at one point.
These are some of the most haunted stretches of road in America.
Even though there’s a double yellow line on that stretch of US 129, quite a few people do pass those they think are traveling too slow. Of course, this sometimes results in some crazy accidents, as does riders and drivers overestimating their vehicle only to go off the edge of the road in different spots.
But this mobility scooter seems to just hug those curves like it was made for this kind of riding. With such a narrow track width and those tiny tires, we wouldn’t think the little vehicle could rip like this.
Then again, we had no idea one could go so fast. It’s a good thing the guy riding it is clad in a helmet, protective coat, and we assume other motorcycle gear. The thing is obviously modified since these mobility scooters, like the Little Rascal, often can barely go faster than your average person can walk.
The rider must be experienced, too, because he leans in the turns, clearly understanding weight transference. It’s that kind of skill, combined with whatever mods this mobility scooter is running, which allows the rider to catch up with a big hog ambling through the turns.
Then the guy on the scooter honks his horn, signaling that he wants to go faster. The other rider is courteous, pulling off onto a clear shoulder, probably at the same time wondering just what happened. We still have no idea, but it’s hilarious.
