Milwaukee Charitable Boxing Club’s Car Stolen

Estimated read time 2 min read

We see a lot of awful stories involving car crimes, but sometimes we run across one that reminds us how much some people just plain suck. This one about a nonprofit boxing club for troubled youth having its only form of transportation stolen is just such a story.

Watch a semi-truck get looted while sitting at a red light.

The guy who runs the boxing gym, Ace Boxing Club which was started by his father, has the goal of keeping kids off the mean streets of Milwaukee. None of the people who work there take a paycheck, they all volunteer their time and talents.

That means the boxing club depends on charitable donations to cover equipment and the facilities. Through careful budgeting, Frank Porter was able to purchase a 2010 Chevy Equinox, not exactly a fancy ride.

But that cheap little crossover was stolen shortly after Porter purchased it while he was out picking up a senior citizen. Sadly, with how common car theft has become in Milwaukee, like in far too many cities, it’s just not that surprising that it happened.

In fact, a lot of people are shocked when their budget car, be it a Hyundai, Kia, Chevy, Ford, etc. is stolen. They seem to believe thieves are only after high-end rides when the reality is sometimes they swipe the cheap stuff because it’s easy, to commit another crime, or just to go joyriding. That’s the bitter reality.

Porter is reaching out to the community for support in tracking down the stolen Chevy. While he’s hopeful it will be found, CBS 58 said he’s also launching a Go Fund Me campaign to replace the vehicle. That’s wise considering some stolen cars are just never found.

It would be great if the thieves saw who they stole from, felt bad, then returned the Equinox. But we wouldn’t hold our breath for that to happen since many car thieves justify their actions in strange ways.
