Pro Football Hall of Fame member and broadcaster Michael Strahan has been named as an honorary Pace Car driver for the 109th Indy 500 next year. It’s an exciting time for the Fox NFL Sunday analyst and Good Morning America co-host, who also happens to be quite the gearhead. Even for a normie, being able to participate like that in such a huge motorsports event would be amazing.
Lewis Hamilton has spoken about his reasons for leaving Mercedes for Scuderia Ferrari.
We don’t know what the C8 Corvette ZR1 Strahan will drive as the pace car for the race will wear as far as livery. That will be revealed at a later date, we bet a few weeks before the actual event to help get everyone excited. A black version of the American sports car was used for the announcement made on Fox NFL Sunday.
Many celebrities, including former professional athletes, have been asked to drive the pace car during the Indianapolis 500 in the past.
Of course, the C8 ZR1 Corvette is more than capable enough to lead the field of 33 drivers to the beginning of the Indianapolis 500. After all, the LT7 V8 produces 1,064-horsepower and can send the American sports car to a top speed of 233 mph, making it the fastest American vehicle made by a major US manufacturer.
“Michael is an impressive addition to the lineup of all-star athletes and celebrities to serve as honorary Pace Car driver for the Indianapolis 500,” IMS President J. Douglas Boles said. “From the gridiron to the broadcast studio, Michael is no stranger to leading a fast-paced field. As we kick off a new era of INDYCAR and the Indy 500 on FOX, Michael will have one of the best seats in the house for the start of the world’s greatest race.”
The Indianapolis 500 will be held Sunday, May 25 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and will be broadcast live on Fox.
