A Waldorf man has been convicted in the 2023 killing of a woman who was struck and pinned beneath a stolen forklift outside a Home Depot in Charles County, Maryland.
Prosecutors said the overnight incident began with a burglary at a nearby Lowe’s store in July 2023. Charles County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched after employees reported loud banging coming from a rear security gate at the store. While deputies were still investigating that call, they were alerted to screams coming from the parking lot of a Home Depot located a short distance away.
When deputies arrived, they found Gloristine Pinkney dead at the scene. She had been pinned beneath a forklift in the parking lot. Investigators later determined that the forklift had been stolen from the Lowe’s store.
Authorities identified the suspect as Bryce Caleb Timothy Brown, who was 22 years old at the time and employed by Lowe’s. Investigators said Brown broke into the fenced-in lot, took the forklift, and drove it to the Home Depot parking area. There, he rammed the forklift into a parked car in which Pinkney was sleeping.
Pinkney awoke and attempted to flee but was struck by the forklift and killed. After the attack, investigators said Brown fled the scene in Pinkney’s vehicle. He later used her credit card to purchase gasoline before abandoning the car.
Detectives tied Brown to the crime through multiple pieces of evidence. His DNA was found inside Pinkney’s car. Investigators also recovered Pinkney’s car keys from Brown’s home, along with a pair of shorts stained with blood. Authorities determined that Brown and Pinkney had no prior relationship, and no clear motive for the attack was established during the investigation.
The case drew attention for the unusual and violent nature of the crime, as well as the use of heavy industrial equipment as a weapon. Prosecutors argued the evidence showed a deliberate and deadly series of actions that ended with Pinkney’s death.
Brown now faces a potential sentence of up to 58 years in prison. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 13, 2026.
All parties are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
