The joke these days is if we were to switch to manual transmission and cursive writing the young generations would be crippled. Maybe not all of them would be, but we do know a lot of criminals would struggle with the dynamic. Yet again we have a case of a vehicle, this time a pickup truck, which couldn’t be stolen because the would-be thief fought with that third pedal.
Check out the Dodge concept cars that could’ve become reality.
This story, which comes out of Boulder, Colorado, has us laughing. The police department there said its dispatch originally learned of the comical crime when someone called about a truck crashing into a fire hydrant.
When officers responded to the scene, they reportedly found a female behind the wheel. The police department didn’t disclose her age, but we’re going to go out on a limb and guessing she’s under 40. Many of the youth never had to learn stick shift, a skill that’s far more common among those in the older generations.
But there are always those outliers.
Officers quickly figured out the pickup not only didn’t belong to the woman, she didn’t have permission to be driving it and so it was obviously stolen. And they got a nice chuckle out of her lack of clutch discipline, sending the vehicle careening off the road and into the fire hydrant.
It gets even better: the owner of the pickup apparently left the keys inside. We’re betting he/she is older and thought no thief would be able to effectively drive the truck thanks to the stick. Well, that was exactly what happened, once again proving that a manual transmission is one of the most reliable anti-theft devices in this modern age.
Thankfully nobody was hurt and hopefully our would-be thief learned her lesson, although only time will tell if that’s true.
