Friction between Lewis Hamilton and Scuderia Ferrari came flowing out during the Miami Grand Prix over the weekend and people are talking. Already, there has been speculation by people in the know that Hamilton will depart the team and find another by the end of the Formula One season. This is just adding fuel to that.
Iowa moves to protect racetracks.
During the race, Hamilton lost his cool as his team took what he thought was too long to give him directions as far as his positioning with teammate Charles LecLerc, the driver unloaded on them over the radio in the most British way possible.
“Yeah, have a tea break while you’re at it! Come on…”
Hamilton said that and other snippy comments weren’t made in anger, making it clear he could have dropped some F-bombs and other colorful language had he really been upset. Instead, he told the media he was just wanting the team to make quick decisions so he could win the race.
“I’m not going to apologize for being a fighter. I’m not going to apologize for still wanting it. I know everyone in the team does too, and I truly believe that when we fix some of the problems that we have with the car, we’ll be back in the fight with the Mercedes, with the [Red] Bulls. It just can’t come quick enough.”
Something many are missing is how with Leclerc finishing seventh and Hamilton eighth, this shows the older driver is improving by keeping up with his teammate, something we haven’t seen before this season.
Scuderia Ferrari clearly wasn’t expecting to be in that position as they struggled with strategy as far as who should lead the way at different times, but this is in fact progress, as messy as it is.
But the season is only just starting to really fire up with Hamilton sitting seventh overall and Leclerc fifth. Anything can happen, so Piastri shouldn’t get too complacent in the top spot if he wants a chance at holding onto it.
