British Formula One driver Lando Norris was recently spotted in what’s believed to be his latest car acquisition, a Lamborghini Urus. The McLaren team member was filed tooling around Monte Carlo in the pricey, exotic Italian SUV recently, departing from his usual coupes and convertibles for something a little more practical.
Learn why Lewis Hamilton is barred from driving old Ferraris.
The McLaren F1 driver was captured on video signing autographs at the Place du Casino before climbing into his Lambo SUV and driving off. The vehicle sports a matte black exterior and heavily tinted windows, giving Norris a degree of privacy as he drives down the road.
Many were shocked to see Norris behind the wheel of an SUV. After all, the F1 driver favors exotic coupes and some convertibles. But the Urus is no performance slouch and despite being an SUV, it is an exotic ride.
Not only does the Urus come with the typical Lamborghini flair when it comes to styling, the two-row vehicle is a performance powerhouse. In fact, the company calls it “the first Super Sport Utility Vehicle in the world.”
Under the hood is a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 with 657-horsepower on tap. Channeling that power to all four wheels is an eight-speed automatic transmission and permanent all-wheel-drive system. That setup allows the Urus to go from 0 to 60 mph in just over 3 seconds. It can also run an 11-second quarter mile, in case you were wondering.
What’s more, the Urus handles incredibly well, including at high speeds. Air springs for all four corners allows the driver to adjust the ride height, a nice feature to prevent damage when going over bumps or negotiating steep driveways, something that’s a big problem in many exotic rides.
In other words, even for someone who drives an F1 racecar for a living, the Lamborghini Urus should be thrilling enough for everyday journeys.
