A man in Missouri blamed crashing into a Kum & Go gas station on his Crocs – and that’s a sentence we never thought we’d publish. What’s even better was the guy isn’t some silly Gen Z 23-year-old but instead is a 60-year-old Boomer.
Watch a Dodge Ram wreck while leaving a Cars and Coffee meet.
The guy, Dale Hamit, was in his 2012 Dodge Ram outside the gas station in Springfield, Missouri, when his footwear became stuck on the accelerator pedal. After the truck slammed into the gas station, surveillance footage shows Hamit taking off, fleeing the scene, reports The Smoking Gun.
Imagine that, a grown man wearing Crocs and driving a Dodge Ram. We have so many questions but are honestly scared of the answers.
What’s just as cringe about this story is that Hamit allegedly returned to the gas station twice after fleeing the scene and went inside. We guess he was trying to convince the attendant he wasn’t the one who hit the convenience store.
He apparently even looked at the surveillance footage of the crash and said the truck wasn’t his and he wasn’t the guy in the video. The guy stuck to his story after the cops showed up and he was still there.
We wonder if he was still wearing his Crocs or if he’d changed into some other shoes?
Police didn’t seem to believe his story, because they later showed up at Hamit’s house and questioned him again. That’s when the guy broke down and confessed that his Crocs got caught on the accelerator and he “freaked out” before taking off.
Damages to the Kum & Go reportedly exceeded $3,700, but we don’t know what part of the convenience store was hit. Because of the amount of damage and the fact he took off, Hamit is now facing a felony charge.
Maybe the guy will turn around and sue Crocs for making faulty footwear or something ridiculous like that? In this crazy world, that’s entirely possible.
