Long rumored but never officially confirmed, the notorious Ferrari “blacklist” allegedly has quite a few celebrities on it. Among those rumored to have been blackballed by the Italian automaker are Justin Bieber and Kim Kardashian, both household names one would think should be a boon to any brand. Ferrari reportedly doesn’t see it that way, if you believe the rumors, but we’ll let you decide on that one.
Meanwhile, Lamborghini kindly asks owners to stop putting crazy wraps on their cars.
When it comes to Justin Bieber, he used to be in Ferrari’s good graces when he was allowed to purchase a 2011 Ferrari 458 Italia. Known for doing rather… interesting things to his cars, it wasn’t shocking that the music star had West Coast Customs apply an electric blue wrap to the exotic Italian.
But that wasn’t all. Bieber swapped out the factory wheels and had a blue Ferrari logo placed in the steering wheel hub in lieu of the traditional yellow and black placed there by the automaker.
Ferrari didn’t like the modifications, which were unauthorized, a big no-no as a Ferrari owner. That was strike one, allegedly. The second, and supposedly final, strike was when Bieber sold his car at auction through Barrett-Jackson before he had owned it for a year. The automaker reportedly spells out these and other rules at the time of purchase, but that doesn’t mean some celebrities and others think they can do what they want.
Then there’s Kim Kardashian, who also acquired a Ferrari 458 Italia, although that one was rumored to have been a wedding present from a notorious businessman in Malaysia. We know you’ll be shocked to learn that Kim has a reputation for allegedly abusing and not maintaining her vehicles.
Well, Ferrari didn’t like how her 458 Italia was presented in public and reportedly decided she wouldn’t get a crack at another ride from Maranello. Can you really blame the automaker for protecting its image?
