Actor Josh Hartnett was hospitalized after a late-night car accident in Newfoundland that left two vehicles heavily damaged, local authorities said Friday.
The 47-year-old actor was a passenger in an SUV that collided with a Royal Newfoundland Constabulary patrol car shortly before 1 a.m. Thursday, police said. The crash, which occurred in St. John’s, caused “significant damage to both of the vehicles involved,” according to officials.
Emergency responders transported three people to the hospital: Hartnett, a 59-year-old man driving the SUV, and the officer operating the patrol vehicle. Police said Hartnett and the other man sustained what appeared to be minor injuries, while the officer was treated as a precaution.
The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation reported that Hartnett had been returning home from filming an untitled Netflix limited series when the accident occurred. Production sources confirmed Friday that the actor has since been released from the hospital and is back at work.
Hartnett, best known for his roles in Pearl Harbor, Black Hawk Down, and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, has experienced a resurgence in recent years with a mix of independent films and high-profile streaming projects.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary has not released further details about the cause of the accident or whether charges will be filed. Authorities said the investigation is ongoing.
Despite the disruption, Netflix representatives emphasized that production on the series remains on schedule.
