Once again, Jeremy Clarkson has run smack into government red tape in the UK, this time in relation to parking for his pub in Cotswold, called The Farmer’s Dog. If you’re a fan of Clarkson’s Farm, you’ll remember the troubles the man had with his Diddly Squat Farm store, including parking, and similar issues for his restaurant.
You’ll never believe the classic cars Mercedes is celebrating now.
Well, the local council this time hasn’t stopped Clarkson from improving the parking lot at The Farmer’s Dog, but it might force him to conduct traffic and flood risk assessments, delaying the improvements, reports Express.
Clarkson’s interest is to safely and comfortably accommodate fans of his work flocking to his businesses. One would think the local council would be all for the same thing, considering the taxes and other revenue they enjoy from the TV presenter’s fame and success.
But, if you watch Clarkson’s Farm, you already know there’s a bit of envy and antagonism going on there.
While Jeremy Clarkson was able to voice his frustrations about government regulations on Top Gear and The Grand Tour, he really shined a light on the ridiculousness in the UK on Clarkson’s Farm. Yet instead of letting up on the man a little so he doesn’t have as much fodder for the Amazon Prime show, local government officials seem to be doubling down on making the TV presenter chase his own tail.
We suppose this is because many in government think highly of themselves and the work they do, no matter how much they obstruct free commerce and citizens just trying to enjoy their lives. Plus, from our experience, quite a few bureaucrats get a thrill out of ruining citizen’s plans because it makes them feel powerful.
In other words, the local council repeatedly proves Clarkson’s points for him. We don’t know if the message is really sinking in for UK citizens, but we do know here in the US it’s resonated with a number of people.
