About a year ago we covered the story of a Ferrari mechanic operating out of Lower Buckeye, Arizona named Donnie Callaway facing serious criminal charges. The man had a number of wealthy clients and was even on Jay Leno’s Garage. When the news came out that Callaway was accused of engaging in fraudulent behavior, plenty of news organizations referred to him as Leno’s mechanic.

That might be why Leno has recently spoken out and set the record straight on his relationship with Callaway. During a recent interview with Scott Michael Nathan on his The Bad Decisions Podcast, Leno disclosed that he didn’t really know Callaway at all.
The comedian said that when the mechanic was on his show, he was recording around two episodes a day, so the man was just one of numerous guests he entertained. But Leno did say he felt like something was weird or off while filming with Callaway, although he blew it off and moved on.
After all, that’s probably how Leno has been able to navigate Tinsel Town.
Leno says he believes even though justice for Callaway is “coming slowly” the right outcome is coming. We’ll see about that. There are a lot of people who feel they were done wrong by the man.
For what it’s worth, Nathan had his own experience with Callaway after buying a rough Ferrari 308. After asking Leno for a recommendation on a mechanic and the comedian telling him he didn’t know anyone he felt comfortable endorsing, Nathan saw that episode of Jay Leno’s Garage with Callaway and decided to look the guy up.
We imagine Callaway got a fair amount of business thanks to his being on Leno’s show. If we were Leno, that would make us uncomfortable even though it sounds like he didn’t actually endorse the man.
But Nathan said he also got a weird vibe from the mechanic who was dressed too well and had well-manicured hands. What kind of mechanic is like that?
