We’re sure by now you’re heard about TJ Hunt and his infamous S650 Mustang body kit Ford really, really doesn’t like. After all, the automaker sent Street Hunter Designs a cease and desist order, and the car was banned from the SEMA Show, causing an absolute frenzy in the automotive media, all because the kit looks too close to the Mustang GTD for the Blue Oval’s taste.
A C1 Corvette fenced in by the late owner gets rescued.
However, it seems all the whooping and hollering over Hunt being “cooked” or whatever was premature conjecture. Imagine that, a bunch of non-attorneys don’t know how the legal system works, go figure.
Hunt recently took to his popular YouTube channel to provide an update, hinting that the infamous body kit might still be released to the public. That’s shocking news to so many who believed the legal decision had already been made (by a cease and desist).
It turns out Hunt has attorneys as well and they’re talking to Ford’s attorneys. The guy seems upbeat and optimistic that the body kit can be changed through an agreement with the automaker’s legal team, making everyone happy, although we don’t think they’ll be joining hands and singing songs around the campfire anytime soon.
Since this is an ongoing thing, Hunt doesn’t want to get into the weeds. After all, we’re sure there are a lot of moving pieces and Ford really wouldn’t appreciate the intimate details of any negotiations being revealed. Hunt understands garnering good will in these situations as well, so as he says he’s “moving forward” and playing whatever hand he’s been dealt.
While Ford seems to have little trouble selling the S650 for now, we imagine a cool body kit like this one from Street Hunter Designs could only help increase the desire some have to buy one. And we somehow don’t think those people considering the body kit are trying to decide between that and a GTD.
But we imagine Ford doesn’t want the GTD to be cheapened or made less special in any way. After all, people are paying big money (some say ridiculous sums) to own one. Hopefully, this whole debacle is put to bed soon as cooler heads prevail. Then auto sites and lame YouTubers can fangirl over the new Hyundai “performance car” or something, we don’t know.
