While in stock form a Dodge Viper is quite the machine, those that are heavily modified, like the one in the included video, are absolute monsters. The Mopar does a good job of intimidating its snake brethren, a Shelby GT500, while sitting at a red light.
This dealership uses a real Dodge Viper on its famous sign.
Supposedly, the Viper is pushing 2,200-horsepower and from the way it sounds, that’s believable. First of all, the chop present during the revving and after seems to indicate the V10 is running far more aggressive aftermarket cams.
Then there’s the super obvious flames shooting out of the exhaust pipes. That alone is enough to make anyone sitting next to you at a red light feel intimidated for obvious reasons. Plus, we don’t see flames shooting from the Shelby.
But there’s another detail which indicates the Viper is pushing serious power: the distinct sound of at least one turbocharger. The potential of the engine with forced induction has been shown to be astronomical and easily over 2,000-horsepower, if you have the budget and stomach to build the car to that level.
Builds like this not only show the Viper has a lot of untapped potential, but also keep the Dodge relevant in today’s world of crazy horsepower figures and blinding acceleration. After all, some people try laughing at how the Hellcats, Redeyes, and Demons have all surpassed the Viper in raw horsepower.
Another thing about this video which has shocked people in the size difference between the Shelby GT500 and the Dodge Viper. We guess a lot of people just look at pictures of the Viper and think it’s this huge American car.
The reality is Vipers are pretty small. Sure, they have a massive V10 engine, but the thing is shoehorned in there. That’s partly what makes the Viper so great and the spiritual successor of the ACR Cobra, another small sports car with a massive engine shoved inside.
