Recently we ran across this 2007 Chevy Suburban overlander listed for sale and it made us sit back and think. We know a lot of people have considered getting into overlanding as a hobby but hesitate because building a rig seems overwhelming. That’s where a vehicle like this could help since it’s perhaps a turn-key solution that won’t break the bank.
Here’s another unique approach to an overlander build.
After all, we’ve seen other overland builds advertised for sale at prices much, much higher than the $50,000 asking price for this Suburban. People can argue about how good a Suburban can be as an overlander, whether or not the modifications on this SUV are good, but for you this might work – you have to decide that.

As you can clearly tell from the photos, this thing has been modified, starting with a lift and 37-inch tires, fender flares, and a snorkel. It also comes with a rear electronic locking diff, 3/16 inch thick skid plates, beefier 14-bolt rear axle with 4.53:1 gear ratio, upgraded front brakes, Fox shocks, ARB compressor, auxiliary lights, etc.
When it comes to living off the grid in the great outdoors, this thing comes with mods for just that. There’s a 40-gallon water tank and water heater, Snomaster fridge/freezer, 200 watt solar panels for charging batteries for living (not driving), rooftop tent, large propane stove, tools, and recovery gear.

Included in the sale is the trailer, which also has 37-inch tires, allowing you to take extra toys and gear into the rough country. It also has a 26 gallon fuel tank with an electric pump, helping with range far away from civilization.
This Chevy Suburban does have 200,000 miles on it but the seller says a new transmission was installed. Do you think this would make for a great outdoor adventure rig or would you opt for something else?
