In Haralson County, Georgia, a high-speed chase involving a U-Haul van and local deputies ended with the arrest of 29-year-old Sparky Chad Marcus from Tallapoosa. The incident occurred when authorities attempted to serve Marcus with an outstanding felony warrant on Sunday. Upon spotting deputies at his residence on Providence Church Spur, Marcus maneuvered the van in a dangerous attempt to escape, nearly hitting two officers in the process.
The pursuit, led by Sgt. Trenton Benson and Sgt. Terry McAdams, saw Marcus engaging in reckless driving behaviors including speeding, driving on the wrong side, and veering through residential yards. The chase came to a halt on Old Highway 100 after Sgt. McAdams executed a PIT maneuver, causing the van to crash into a ditch. Despite Marcus’s resistance during the arrest, the situation was controlled with the deployment of K-9 Janco.
Sheriff Stacy Williams condemned Marcus’s actions, highlighting the disregard for public and officer safety. Marcus now faces charges that include driving with a suspended license, fleeing and attempting to elude, reckless driving, aggravated assault on a peace officer, and obstruction, alongside other traffic-related offenses. This incident underscores the dangers law enforcement officers face and the lengths to which individuals will go to evade capture.
