Hollywood actor Frankie Muniz made headlines last week when he announced his plans to become a full-time NASCAR race driver. However, his first race since that revelation didn’t go so well, with him finishing at almost the very bottom of the field this past Saturday, October 26.
Learn how NASCAR is embracing electrification.
Starting behind the wheel of Toyota Tacoma for Reaume Brothers Racing during the Truck Series at Homestead-Miami Speedway, he suffered a big setback when his vehicle experienced mechanical difficulties.
In fact, out of a field of 34 vehicles, he finished 31. In other words, it was one rough race, the kind which tests the mettle and determination of a driver.
In audio shared by Kyle Dalton on social media platform X, we can hear Muniz start off optimistic about the race, then later yell out that his truck lost power. That was just on lap 8, so his troubles began early in the competition and didn’t let up.
You have to hand it to Muniz and his team for getting that truck across the finish line instead of not pushing through and dropping out. You can hear the frustration in Muniz’s voice as he expresses how he just wants to prove he belongs in the series and can compete.
Few celebrities are willing to take real risks and do something like drive a racecar, even for just a few laps on a bare track. But to go wheel-to-wheel with real racers in a crowded field lap after lap like what Muniz did over the weekend, that’s something even most regular Joes couldn’t pull off, so we’re already impressed.
Hopefully Muniz is able to see more success as he steps into driving full-time next season. Mechanical failures and other difficulties happen, but good drivers bounce back from those setbacks and really hammer it home when things line up.
