Arkansas State Police say a high-speed pursuit involving a black Ford Mustang took an unexpected turn when officers discovered the driver was professional football player Dillon Mitchell. The 28-year-old, who once played in the NFL and is currently signed with the Canadian Football League’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers, is now facing a long list of charges after a chase that topped 130 mph and crossed multiple jurisdictions.
Dash camera footage released by the agency shows the Mustang traveling south on U.S. 63 as the pursuit began. Officers reported that the driver repeatedly overtook traffic on the shoulder, weaved through the center lane, and ran a red light while accelerating into triple-digit speeds. The chase continued onto Interstate 555, where troopers say the vehicle exceeded 100 mph as it approached approaching exits and heavier traffic.
Near mile marker 47, the Mustang attempted an abrupt move toward an off-ramp, but the maneuver failed. The car lost control, hit an exit sign, and rolled into a grassy area before coming to rest on the shoulder. The driver stepped out moments later, appearing composed despite the collision, and waited for officers while holding a phone.
Troopers detained Mitchell at the scene and transported him to a patrol car, where he questioned the reason for his arrest. Authorities later outlined a series of charges he now faces, including felony fleeing, first-degree DWI, refusal to submit to testing, reckless driving, and several traffic violations ranging from excessive speeding to disregarding a red light. Officers also reported that he did not possess a valid driver’s license at the time of the incident.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers acknowledged the situation, noting that the organization is gathering information but offering no further comment. The case now adds an unexpected off-field chapter to Mitchell’s career as investigators continue reviewing the pursuit and its aftermath.
