All eyes are on Lewis Hamilton and his new team, Scuderia Ferrari HP, as the 2025 Formula One season is about to begin. With anticipation high after one of the most controversial driver transfers in the sport’s history, everyone is wondering how the move will turn out. But team principal Frederic Vasseur is confident, telling the media recently that Hamilton is “the perfect fit.”
Ferrari has a new look for its 499P Hypercars.
Some might think it’s too early for Vasseur to make such a bold statement, but the man has a history with Hamilton. After all, he was the driver’s team boss during his GP2 (now called Formula 2) days almost 20 years ago.
But, as Sky Sports notes in its report, Vasseur admitted during his comments at the storied Italian F1 team’s lunch held in London on February 18 that Hamilton has changed considerably. In other words, to nobody’s surprise, the man is a far better and more seasoned driver.
“I’m so proud to be a part of the team.”

Vasseur will be getting an even better look at Hamilton’s skills in the new SF-25 as both Hamilton and teammate Charles LecLerc put in time behind the wheel doing pre-season testing in Bahrain this week.
While Hamilton has remarked how driving for Ferrari is a dream come true that has reinvigorated him, others are skeptical about what kind of a performance he can turn out this season. After all, at age 40 he’s no spring chicken for F1 racing. He had mixed results in the 2024 season, but one could chalk that up to turbulence with his former team, although his age also might be a factor.
He also famously crashed an old Ferrari F1 car doing practice laps in Spain. While Scuderia Ferrari HP management has stayed upbeat about that incident and Hamilton in general, what really matters is how the man performs in the various Grands Prix.
The 2025 F1 season begins with the Australian Grand Prix, which will be held March 14 through 16. A total of 24 Grands Prix will be held this season, the final one in Abu Dhabi December 5 through 7.
