There’s little doubt Brad Pitt’s upcoming movie F1 is generating some excitement. After the second teaser trailer dropped during Super Bowl LIX, even more people are aware of its existence and are thirsty for more details on what the film is all about.

Unfortunately, the 30-second spot, which cost Apple TV+ a whopping $8 million to buy, reveals precious little about the plot. But it does show how real F1 cars racing on real Grand Prix circuits during real F1 events add an element of realism and excitement some computer generated animation couldn’t achieve.
A tiny bit of information has already been released to the public about the movie, so we’ll start there. On IMDB the only plot summary is as follows: “Follows a Formula One driver who comes out of retirement to mentor and team with a younger driver.”
That driver is Sonny Hayes, of course played by Pitt. Word is Hayes suffered a horrific crash that forced him into retirement, so the guy has some trauma related to that. The rookie driver he mentors, Joshua Pearce, is played by Damson Idris.
From what we can gather, this is supposed to be an underdog motorsports movie as the veteran racer and rookie work together to push a new team higher in the fiercely competitive field.
In the trailer, we see scenes shot at multiple circuits, including Silverstone, Las Vegas, and Spa-Francorchamps. There’s also a shot of the Daytona International Speedway with fireworks exploding overhead in the night sky, obviously not from an F1 race.
Several real F1 drivers are featured in the movie, although we’re not sure exactly how much screen time they’ll have. Eventually a full trailer will drop and we’ll know more about this movie, but for now these little snatches are all we have.
