One thing Volkswagen Beetles or Type 1s have going for them is they’re lightweight, simple cars. This has led to people doing engine swaps into them, but this Baja build with an LS swap is one of the most extreme examples we’ve ever seen. What’s even better is it’s for sale right now, so it could be parked in your garage next.
Excellent Bad Idea: Ariel Nomad Tactical
Not only is it rocking the big V8 (in the rear, of course) this Baja Bug comes with a full tube chassis and roll cage so it’s ready for all the off-road action. We can only imagine when you drop the hammer on this thing how insanely quick it accelerates, which is why it’s probably advisable even on pavement to feather it.
For the inexperienced or unwise driver, this thing is a death sentence on wheels. Sure, you get racing seats and harnesses, plus that cage to provide protection, but King 2.0 and 2.5 shocks with coilovers and remote reservoirs might fill some with a little too much confidence.
Plus, that LS has been bored and stroked with a peak 580-horsepower. For those who don’t know how physics works, that kind of power along with 35-inch tires, those kinds of shocks, and the sense of protection the roll cage and harnesses supplies would lead to attempting off-road jumps at speeds which would lead to disaster.
In other words, this ride might be an excellent bad idea, which are the best kinds of hobby vehicles to have.
The person guy who’s selling this amazing Volkswagen Baja Bug on Facebook Marketplace in Southern California says it’s completely street legal, so you don’t have to trailer this thing to your favorite outdoor spot. Just remember, you’ll have to practice some restraint while enjoying this crazy build in the great outdoors, if you can swing the price of admission for the ride.
