Drivers and cyclists aren’t always on the best of terms with each other, however the driver in the video we’ve shared from Romania saved a cyclist from what certainly appears to be an impending wolf attack. The situation is crazy since you don’t usually think of wolves as being a hazard while riding your bicycle, so it’s a good thing the driver and his passenger noticed it before it was too late.
Are cyclists becoming the new biker gangs?
The footage, which was taken on a cellphone by the passenger in the car, was filmed on a rural Romanian road. You can see fairly thick forest just feet away from the pavement, allowing the wolf to dodge into the tree line and hide its movements some.
When the video, which is only about a minute long, starts we see the cyclist looking over his shoulder at the slow-rolling car. The guy is probably wondering why the driver isn’t passing him, possibly nervous the vehicle will suddenly accelerate and plow him over. Sadly, that sort of thing happens.
As the camera pans over to the shoulder, we see the threat: a rather large wolf more than capable of attacking and probably overpowering a human, especially a skinny cyclist. But as the wolf starts loping towards what appears to be its intended prey, the driver starts honking his horn.
That startles the wolf, which hesitates, then starts moving towards the woods. This happens repeatedly, but the cyclist doesn’t appear to see the wolf. He’s probably thinking the driver is some jerk who doesn’t like how he’s riding or just the fact he’s on the road at all.
Instead, the driver and his passenger are concerned the cyclist is about to become the wolf’s dinner. But by continuing to honk the horn, they eventually scare the predator off and the cyclist remains safe. Thankfully it wasn’t a whole pack stalking him, because even then we don’t think the car would’ve been an effective deterrent.
