Professional drifter James Dean says he was blown away when Ford gifted him a Mustang RTR Spec 2 recently. He had just won the 2024 Formula Drift Championship, and the pony car was a reward for the feat.
Semi crash releases millions of bees.
Ford let Dean pick out the spec he wanted and the man went for the Spec 2 dressed in Grabber Blue. We think he has impeccable taste.
The gift was such a big deal to Dean because he says it’s he first brand new street car he’s owned. Since he lives in Ireland, his car is of course right-hand-drive.
Naturally, Ford didn’t give a Mustang RTR to just any driver. Dean drives a Ford Mustang in Formula Drift, so he’s a Blue Oval factory driver. That’s why the automaker gave him a new car for winning the championship.
Designed by Vaught Gittin Jr. and his team, the Mustang RTR has some visual cues which set it apart from the regular ponies. For starters, the upper grille is unique and features LED air intakes as well as the RTR logo.
The car also gains a hood vent, chin splitter, duckbill spoiler, badging, wheels, rocker splitters, rear quarter splitters, and other exterior changes.
What you don’t see are the upgraded suspension parts. They include adjustable shocks and struts, lowering springs, and adjustable front/rear sway bars. That means a driver can fine tune how the suspension responds to suit their driving style and conditions, something we’re sure Dean appreciates.
Dean stuck with the more traditional black wheels, although there are other colors available. Wrapped around those 20-inch wheels are Nitto NT555 G2 tires for excellent grip.
We don’t know what interior spec Dean went with since he didn’t show that part of his pony. We also don’t know if he opted for an automatic or manual transmission, although we hope for and expect the latter, considering the man’s skills.
Hopefully he enjoys his new ride!
