We all get lost sometimes, but a DoorDash delivery driver really got turned around, ending up on the tarmac of Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport last weekend. Somehow, the 36-year-old was able to get through security gates and drove on roads as well as runways behind the razor wire-lined fences before he was stopped.
You can go overlanding with Ford, for a price.
How the guy even got past security is a question everyone’s asking. After all, like CBS News Chicago points out, if you stop at the curb for pickup or drop-off for too long, security will start telling you to move it.
But this guy, who was delivering food or groceries, just casually drove through secure areas in broad daylight. It’s possible he drove around on the roads and runways where the public isn’t allowed for a few miles.
It wasn’t airport security who saw the unauthorized vehicle but instead it was someone in the air traffic control tower. Thankfully, the guy didn’t cause any crashes with planes landing and taking off at the busy airport, all because he couldn’t figure out how to deliver someone’s Chipotle bowl.
We’re going to chalk this one up to a guy paying more heed to his navigation app than the signs telling him he couldn’t drive in certain areas – not to mention the chain link fences with razor wire along the top.
You’ve probably known people like that, who do whatever their navigation app of choice tells them. This is how we see stories of drivers going off bridges, venturing past roadblocks set up to warn drivers that a road is impassable, and other odd behaviors behind the wheel.
We’re unsure where this guy was going to deliver an order. Maybe it was somewhere at the airport or maybe it was in the area of the airport.
Hopefully, some serious changes for security protocol are coming to O’Hare International Airport after this.
