There’s a longstanding tradition of people who attend Cars and Coffee meets to do burnouts or other stunts while leaving the parking lot. Organizers of some of these events have banned even revving an engine because incidents like this one from the Cars and Coffee Oklahoma City meet where a Dodge Ram SRT-10 crashed, almost hitting spectators.
These opulent, over-the-top armored SUVs are new to the American car market.
The incident, which was caught in at least two videos and some photos uploaded to the internet, shows what happens when an inexperienced driver gets a little too frisky with a high-powered vehicle.
We see the truck, which from the sound of the Viper V10 engine was revving high, drifts around a street corner before the back end came out. Instead of throttle steering to straighten it, you can hear the driver took his foot off the accelerator.
While he didn’t hit the brakes hard, the sudden weight transference resulted in the truck veering the other direction, toward a crowd of spectators. Instead of just hopping the curb and resulting in serious carnage to the people standing there, the move ends with the rear passenger-side wheel hitting the curb with its full face.
Forces from the impact snapped the wheel off and caused the truck to jump into the air as it continued to spin, finally coming to a rest in the middle of the street. The people in the crowd expressed amazement at witnessing such a thing and probably for surviving it.
Of course, Oklahoma City Police were called and an officer was present to have the truck towed. We don’t know what happened to the driver, but we imagine he picked up at least one citation. Depending on the cop and jurisdiction, a driver might face criminal charges for this sort of stunt.
While we see this kind of foolishness far too often from Mustangs, Corvettes, Challengers, BMWs, etc. at the end of the day this incident proves you really should just drive away from Cars and Coffee as calmly as possible instead of trying to show off for the crowd, no matter how much they might encourage you to put their lives at risk.
