Diesel GM Truck Owners Might Be Owed Money

Estimated read time 2 min read

If you or someone you know has owned or currently owns a GMC Sierra or Chevy Silverado with a Duramax diesel engine, you might have some money coming your way. Thaks to a class action lawsuit filed against General Motors, a proposed $35 million settlement has been reached for owners and it’s all thanks to defective fuel pumps.

A semi-truck got stuck on the Tail of the Dragon recently.

According to JND Legal Administration, trucks included in the class action lawsuit are 2011 to 2016 Silverados and Sierras equipped with the Duramax 6.6-liter V8 LML diesel engine which was shipped from the factory with a Bosch CP4 high-pressure fuel injection pump.

You might already have cursed that fuel pump, thanks to allegations it’s incredibly fragile, often resulting in catastrophic failure. Owners of the pickups equipped with the fuel pump stand to receive an estimated $400 to $12,700 in the proposed settlement.

Those payouts are supposed to cover financial damages suffered by truck owners, not personal injury claims, if there are any. To qualify for the settlement, you must have purchased one of the affected trucks from a GM-authorized dealer in California, Texas, New York, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, or Pennsylvania from March 1, 2010 to September 13, 2024.

The money is supposed to reimburse fuel pump replacements not covered by the factory warranty. You can either still own the truck or not longer have it and might still qualify. Plus, if you still own the pickup, you can get cash to cover half of future fuel pump repairs.

Just to be clear, GM hasn’t admitted to any wrongdoing on its part. In fact, the company has rigorously defended itself against the class action lawsuit. But it seems the time has arrived for it to be put to rest, ending ongoing legal costs.
