NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Jr. took to social platform X to voice his approval with Kendrick Lamar’s Buick that was the centerpiece of the rappers Super Bowl halftime show. Many gearheads thought the sinister-looking Grand National put on the best performance in the middle of the Philadelphia Eagles pummeling the Kansas City Chiefs.
NASCAR’s Open Exemption Provisional rule is getting slammed.
More specifically, Junior responded to a post from sports journalist Ryan McGee who also praised Lamar’s choice in vehicles for the show. “I don’t care if you like Kendrick Lamar’s music or not,” he posted. “Any man who makes a Buick Grand National the centerpiece of the #SuperBowl halftime show is a superhero. #GNX.”
In reply to that praising of the rapper’s car, Earnhardt said, “I told Amy ‘that’s my dream car.’”

Likely, Junior just like many other people, believed the Buick he saw on the screen was a GNX. While it’s true Lamar owns a GNX, which he showed off with glee last summer, what we saw used as a quasi clown car at the beginning of the halftime show was a regular Grand National modified to look a lot like a GNX.
In other words, Earnhardt really wants a GNX. With all the money and fame he has at his disposal, we’re pretty sure the man could buy one. So why hasn’t he if that’s his dream car?
We don’t have any answers, but we do know a lot of people fantasize about owning one of the only 547 Buick GNX cars made for the 1987 model year. They were wickedly fast for their time, roasting exotic cars like Ferraris on the drag strip, becoming a blue collar hero.
But now, the 80s muscle cars fetch six-figure prices, making them anything but a common man’s car. Even someone as rich and famous as Lamar isn’t going to use theirs in a show like that, especially as he stands on the hood – that would be insane.
