People are shocked to learn Christian Von Koenigsegg, yes the Swedish hypercar guy, drives to work in a little Toyota hatchback every day. The man is worth millions, sells some of the most amazing vehicles in the world to people worth millions if not billions, yet he has a seemingly common daily driver.
After being embarrassed by Porsche, Ford goes back to the Nurburgring.
We guess people just assumed he commutes in a Koenigsegg, but the man is far more practical. He recently took to his Instagram account, which he rarely uses, posting a video about his “little 3 cylinder madness for the morning commute.”
The man went on in the post, which features a video with his Toyota GR Yaris, saying how much he loves small cars. That is just mind blowing to so many.
Maybe we’re not as shocked because we’ve known many people who own a Ferrari, Lamborghini, or other exotic ride but on the daily cruise around town in something rather mundane, even common. It’s about saving money, flying under the radar, and making the moments spent inside the supercar or hypercar feel even more special.
For Koenigsegg, his choice of the GR Yaris comes with some fun. While a regular Yaris is rather gutless, Gazoo Racing dials up performance for the little turbo 3-cylinder mill, pushing output to 280-horsepower. It can easily be tuned for much more.
Adding to the fun is all-wheel drive, upgraded brakes, and a suspension tuned for track use. In other words, it’s not just some little economy car, even though it’s based on one, but instead is like a small racecar that’s road legal.
The fact the GR Yaris is exciting enough for Christian Von Koenigsegg not only to buy and drive every day, but to post a video about it on Instagram, is the real story. While we don’t have the car here in the US, we do have its cousin, the GR Corolla. More enthusiasts are probably going to check it out and see what the big deal is.
