Like a lot of people, we are huge fans of the Porsche 911 Turbos, so when we saw there was a meet in California consisting solely of these force-fed flat-six cars, we were excited. However, the meet that was documented by automotive photographer Larry Chen was held in a somewhat exotic and definitely famous location.
See the darkest Porsche in the world for yourself.
First off, the meet was held to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Porsche 911 Turbo. Every generation of the car was represented in the vehicles invited to official take part. Not only were there street cars, starting with the infamous Widowmakers, Turbo racecars were also in the mix.
But the crown jewel at the event was the first-ever Porsche 911 Turbo, a car which is likely worth millions.
We never would’ve thought they would hold car shows at Skywalker Ranch, home of Lucasfilm’s Skywalker Sound studio. But the location is pristine, so it’s perfect for showing off those famous body lines, whale tails and all.
Normally, Skywalker Ranch is closed to the public, so to have an event where so many members of the public could come and look at the 911 Turbos, as well as see where movie/TV staff stay when they’re recording audio is a unique treat.
Since we all couldn’t attend, is great that Chen documented everything for us so we get a peak behind the curtain as well. However, he was restricted in what he could photograph at the Porsche meet and had to sign an NDA.
Chen couldn’t photograph but he does describe a large underground parking garage he says is “like a fortress” hidden from view. It’s perhaps how Lucas preserved the pastoral feel of the property while having a number of guests in attendance at any given time.
