Charger Battles Charger In A Police Chase

Estimated read time 2 min read

When Blytheville Police requested help with stopping a fleeing suspect vehicle, nobody knew it would turn into a brutal battle between two Dodge Chargers. Not only were the two suspects riding in a Charger, the Arkansas trooper who answered the request was in one. That’s not really a surprise since much of Arkansas State Police’s fleet is made up of the Mopar sedans, so it’s always interesting when they deal with suspects in the same model line.

Similar to a spec racing series, the outcome of these types of chases rests even more on skill versus the machine. In other words, it’s the man behind the wheel who makes the difference. Although with this chase one Charger is pursuit rated and the other isn’t, plus there are other differences including tires and such. But you get the point.

The trooper sees the chase coming down the road to where he’s already staged, so it’s just a matter of waiting with his lights on in the right lane, then jackrabbiting after the fleeing Charger when it passes him in the left lane.

What’s really interesting is the suspect driver hits the brakes after passing the ASP Charger, almost like he is shocked or panicking. Perhaps he starts to realize he is messing with more than just the local police, making the outcome of his flight less likely to be positive.

If that’s what the guy is thinking, he’s dead on. It takes the about 30 seconds for the trooper to catch up to the fleeing Dodge, set up, then perform a brutally effective PIT maneuver. It’s one of those where he keeps the suspect car sideways for a couple of seconds, then spins it out nice and hard so it goes into the ditch on the side of the road, leaving no chance the suspects can drive out of it and keep the pursuit going.

It all came down to the driver and once again ASP wins out thanks to superior skill.
