Often overlooked when it comes to Godzillas, the Nissan Skyline GT-R R33 is still quite the performance car, especially when modified. While some are content to upgrade the turbo and do some other tweaks, a builder decided to give an R33 a full carbon-fiber, widebody treatment.
This 1977 Pontiac Trans Am drag racer build is incredible.
What’s really cool about this car is it has red paint on the nose, but as you go down the body that hue gradually fades into the exposed carbon-fiber weave. The effect is dramatic and unique, making this the perfect show car.
Using carbon fiber for the body panels comes with a bonus of weight savings. They’re estimating that alone shed about 220 lbs. off the curb weight, which is great. That means improvement not only for acceleration but handling and braking performance.
The wheel flares add about 2 inches of width on each side. That means a wider tire can fit without the risk of stone throws to mar that beautiful gradient paint. Everyone can debate about this but one of the reasons people like widebodies, other than just they look cool, is the larger contact patch on the tire comes with some performance advantages.
Under the hood is just as beautiful as the Nissan’s exterior, again making this the perfect ride to take to a show. The engine has been rebuilt with an HKS stroker kit. That’s paired with twin HKS GT III turbos. It’s unknown how much power this build is pushing, but we guarantee it’s no small amount.
Plus, this R33 is on airbags, which is great considering how low it sits. After all, your performance ride is going to get all kinds of scuffed up if you try going up a steep driveway or over a large speed hump at that ride height.
The interior looks super nice, again rising to the level of a show car. There’s a full cage with hand-stitched leather covers, plus hand-stitched leather on the seats with hounds tooth inserts.
You have to see this car in detail by watching the video – it’s absolutely gorgeous!
