Car theft has gotten so bad these days even your Hot Wheels collection isn’t safe. One collector in Oroville, California learned that the hard way when someone swiped their diecast cars in a surprisingly large heist. Thankfully police were able to crack the case in the end.
Check out a shocking Stanley cup heist busted up by cops.
According to Oroville Police Department, the victim was out of town when an unnamed suspect took 192 Hot Wheels from the victim’s house. A photo of the recovered cars shows a large plastic storage bin almost overflowing with cars still on their retail cards, so it looks like almost 200 in there.
Police said when they recovered the toys, they counted each one. That must have been a particularly fun case to process after the bust was made.
The entire value of the stolen collection is claimed to be over $1,500. Some fairly valuable diecasts must be included in the mix for the value to rise that high, which is honestly impressive. No wonder the owner really wanted his Hot Wheels back.
As for the suspect, he was arrested and booked into the Butte County Jail for possession of stolen property. That person will have his day in court with consequences attached to the alleged actions.
We hope none of the cars or the cards were damaged in the whole heist and that nothing from the Hot Wheels collection was lost. After all, that could result in long depreciation.
This case might seem silly to some people, but the business of colleting Hot Wheels and other diecast cars has become rather serious. Some of the toys are worth thousands of dollars each, so we hate seeing thieves target them. This sadly isn’t the first Hot Wheels heist we’ve seen and likely won’t be the last.
