At far too many cars shows, meets, and even cruises, there’s an old tradition of doing burnouts and even drifting when leaving the parking lot. That’s the case with the annual Buffalo Motorama, as a video we’ve shared from the 2025 event clearly shows. But that sort of behavior is a great way to get events shut down, something we’ve seen over and over throughout the years.
See how a bunch of Gen Z enthusiasts react to a DeLorean pulling up to a car meet.
While we don’t agree with the decision, it’s why the Coffee and Cars Houston organizers just banned muscle cars from participating. After incidents of not only engines being revved but burnouts performed, They decided to skip out on the possibility of being pushed out of where they were hosting the gatherings, if not being completely shut down by the city.
We get why. Everyone’s seen videos of fools trying to impress the crowd as they leave a meet or show, losing control of their car as they careen into a bunch of pedestrians or another vehicle. It’s downright dangerous.
Plus, with problems in the past, in some areas the cops will just monitor everyone leaving, issuing citations. If enough of those are handed out, city officials can decide to put an end to the event and all the funny business that goes along with it.
Maybe officials in Buffalo, New York are just okay with this behavior? Maybe police just look the other way, letting people have their fun?
Some of the participants went so far as to drift around an intersection, which is a little too much like a street takeover for our taste. We don’t want that cancer spreading any further in the hobby we love.
At least some of the people leaving Buffalo Motorama in their cool rides were content to not smoke their tires and give into peer pressure from the crowd. All the people standing there wanting to record mayhem they can then post onto social media is very much part of the problem.
