Even among other hypercars, the Bugatti Bolide is something special. After all, the one-off uses the quad-turbocharged W16 engine, only with straight pipes for a sound that’s beastly and vicious. This video footage of its cold start and being loaded into a trailer is mesmerizing for the sound alone.
Learn about the supposed Bugatti ban imposed on celebrity Simon Cowell.
The footage was recorded by a YouTuber during the Milano Monza Motor Show back in 2021 and it amazed so many we think it’s worth revisiting. After all, we can appreciate a good cold start and aggressive idle.
While we’ve heard the quad-turbo W16 engine plenty of times before, it’s always been with sound baffling and emissions controls in the exhaust system. That means we get to hear the hypercar’s engine completely unrestricted.
It’s enough to startle people when the Bolide first fires up. You’ll see some individuals jump, obviously not expect the thing to bark so aggressively. They should have considering the hypercar is made solely for track use.
That snarling engine makes a whopping 1,600-horsepower on pump gas or 1,850-hp using race fuel. While in any car that’s a lot of power, considering the Bolide tips the scale at just over 3,000 lbs. that’s borderline insane. With that in mind, the hypercar certainly has plenty of bite behind that vicious bark.
Since it’s made to drive on tracks, ground clearance is tight and the Bolide features some wild aero elements. Those are accentuated by the aggressive headlight pattern and the wild X-shaped taillights.
Even though the Bugatti Bolide is made for track runs, it surprisingly comes with power steering, ergonomic seats, and air conditioning. Such creature comforts are almost never included on cars designed for a life on the racetrack. Then again, Bugatti likes doing things differently.
