Like other high-end automakers, Bugatti is rumored to have a blacklist the company won’t acknowledge. Because it and the famous celebrities supposedly banned from buying Bugattis won’t talk about it, rumors drive news about who’s on the blacklist, which allegedly includes rapper Flo Rida for a reason you might not remember.
Meanwhile, Lamborghini has just one simple request for car owners.
It was the summer of 2011 when the news hit that Flo Rida had been pulled over by police while driving his Bugatti Veyron in Miami Beach. Allegedly, the rap star was driving erratically and officers eventually concluded he was intoxicated.
He also reportedly blew a 0.185 on a breathalyzer after telling police he couldn’t do the field sobriety test, more than doubling the legal limit in Florida. He was arrested and the story spread through the media like wildfire.
Even though a lot of people have forgotten about that story, allegedly Bugatti hasn’t. Because the celebrity was behind the wheel of a hypercar manufactured in Molsheim, he’s rumored to no longer be welcome at the exclusive dealerships. The automaker apparently felt the DUI story was bad press for the brand and wanted to avoid more mishaps like that.
While some can understand why the French company would ban a celebrity for committing a crime while behind the wheel of one of its hypercars, it seems not everyone has landed on the alleged blacklist for illegal activities.
Like we said before, Flo Rida is hardly the only banned celebrity. Tom Cruise is rumored to also be on the Bugatti blacklist. That’s allegedly thanks to an embarrassing scene at the premier of Mission Impossible 3 back in 2005.
Cruise’s error was that when he arrived to the movie’s premier with his then-wife Katie Holmes, he struggled for over 40 seconds to open her door, something which millions witnesses. Bugatti allegedly found the mishap to reflect poorly on its brand, deciding to ban the actor, which is rumored to still be the case to this day.
