When people dream of owning a Ferrari, few if any think of the Mondial. As the 308 GT4’s successor, the mid-engined 2+2 with a transversely mounted V8 was supposed to have broad appeal. But it’s been largely forgotten as time has marched on.
Here’s a car that will offend Ferrari and Ford fans simultaneously.
Perhaps that in part is why this one, partly restored, is being offered to the public for a mere $27,000. That’s Toyota Camry money there, albeit for a much newer, nicer, and put together Camry, but still.

This is one rough looking car, but the patchy red paint and bare metal on different areas is apparently all part of an ongoing restoration process you would be taking over. That’s right, you could roll your sleeves up and get this Italian stallion looking like new, if you have the grit for such a project.
Obviously the body needs more work, and it sounds like the engine isn’t in great condition. The ad says this Ferrari “runs” but if someone feels the need to clarify that, in our experience it’s not a good sign. A video included in the listing on Facebook Marketplace shows the car driving as the engine is puttering like it has some issues, perhaps compression? That’s the “fun” you’re signing up for.
At least the interior is apparently getting all buttoned up in advance. That’s interesting because most people do the mechanicals, then the bodywork, and finish with the interior restoration, but whatever.

When else are you going to find any Ferrari for under $30,000? Poking around online, it seems restored examples are going for over $50,000 at least. In other words, you could get some sweat equity with this car, so long as the engine doesn’t have a serious issue that blow the budget.
Would you take a chance on this Ferrari Mondial?
