The Bugatti Chiron is designed for extreme speed and of course being noticed, but not so much for practicality. That’s a hard lesson one owner, Shannon Ralston, learned the hard way when she spilled an entire can of Red Bull in the door pocket of her hypercar.
Is this the cheapest Bugatti in the US?
Ralston voiced her frustration with the lack of a cupholder on Instagram. Bugatti Director of Design Frank Heyl replied to her post pleading for a solution almost immediately, saying he and his team was up for the “challenge” of addressing the problem.
Just days later, Heyl took to his own Instagram account to show off the cupholder solution his team churned out. Ironically, the sleeve they designed goes into the very door pocket where Ralston spilled her energy drink.
A lack of cupholders, or having pathetically small and dinky ones, has been a problem with European cars for some time. While some brands have caught on to the needs of mostly American consumers in this area, thanks in no small part to American employees effectively communicating why that need exists, certain brands like Bugatti are still playing catchup.
In this case, the bespoke cupholder Heyl shows off fits perfectly in the driver’s door pocket. It features two slots for two different sizes of drinks, which honestly is a pretty smart feature to include.
That said, it doesn’t look like it would accommodate a Big Gulp, but we don’t think many Chiron drivers, including Ralston, are guzzling soda. Instead, the larger slot would accommodate a decently sized water bottle, while the smaller one is perfect for a slim can of Red Bull.
Heyl and his team went so far as the make the bespoke cupholder match the color scheme of Ralston’s Chiron, printing her name on it for further personalization. It’s a nice touch which highlights how boutique automakers like Bugatti take care of their customers in ways mass market brands just can’t and won’t. Just you have to be able to afford the Chiron first.
