There’s no doubt about a 1987 Buick GNX being highly collectible, especially one that’s in immaculate condition and has low miles. That’s what this example that’s being auctioned online right now boasts and we wonder just how high the final bid will push to before the dust settles.
Magnus Walker is selling his famous warehouse in Los Angeles.
This is car #73 to roll off the production line back in the day and it’s been on the market before. The last time we saw it was about six years ago when it had around 15,000 miles on the clock, reportedly pulling in a cool $107,995. People back in the late 80s would’ve called you a liar for saying one of these would sell for six digits later.
Now that #73 is back on the market, it’s being auctioned on Bring A Trailer and not surprisingly the fast Buick is generating plenty of attention. At the time this article was written, the top bid was an even $75,000. But we expect it will be much higher by the time this publishes, and will push even higher before time runs out.
The car has about 19,000 miles and it still looks super clean outside and in. Among the many photos the seller has submitted, we’re hard pressed to find any kind of blemish, so this GNX should pull in a pretty penny by the time the final bid is submitted.
However, this car will help us gauge if the Buick GNX craze which has been going for a few years now is starting to wane or if investors are still going nuts over these cars. Sure, some are being purchased for truckloads of cash by enthusiasts, but let’s face it, most are being scooped up as appreciating assets for investors looking to turn a profit.
Since this one has been driven a couple thousand miles or so over the past several years, it’s likely the current owner isn’t just an investor. They usually don’t drive vehicles much, if at all. Still, this incredibly clean example is going to be watched by many to see which way the market is going at this point.
