While here in the US we have barn find Corvettes and muscle cars, in places like Australia they have Nissan Skyline GT-Rs that have been stashed away and forgotten. A YouTuber recently told the story of how he ran across a nice but very dusty R33 stuck in storage at a rural property, among other interesting rides.
Check out a barn find Dodge Viper.
The guy said at the time he had a mobile car detailing service as well as a growing vehicle rental venture. He went out to a farm to check out a single-cab ute, believing it would be a good utilitarian ride to add to his small fleet of rentals.
While looking at that vehicle, he started talking to the owner about what he does and his interest in cars. That’s when the guy opened up and said he had several others stashed in a shed. Once he saw those telltale four round taillights, he had to check out the R33 just left to rot.
But he fully expected it to be a GT-S or some other Skyline model, certainly not a GT-R. After all, who would do such a thing to Godzilla?
The owner just casually told the YouTuber it was in fact a GT-R, which blew him away. When he asked if the owner was interested in selling, the man admitted that just the previous night he decided to part with them.
In other words, the YouTuber got lucky being at the right place at the right time. This is why if you fantasize about getting some crazy barn find you need to not only be keeping your ear to the ground and talking to people, but also have money set aside so you can buy a solid find when you come across it. After all, no bank is going to finance your purchase.
The YouTuber realized how lucky he was after making an offer the owner accepted, saying he felt like he “won the lotto.” In a way he did, because the R33 GT-R cleaned up nicely and has some great features like NISMO wheels and HKS turbos.
Can you imagine finding something like this?
